Utah Candidate Accused by Four Women

Eva López Chávez, a Democrat running for Congress in Utah, faces accusations from four women alleging unwanted sexual advances. Victoria Petro says López Chávez pressed her against a wall at a party in September 2022 and made a crude remark about men; state Sen. Jennifer Plumb and former aide Maggie Regier made similar claims of being pushed against a wall. Rep. Hoang Nguyen recounts a 2022 incident during a car ride in which López Chávez allegedly leaned over, held her shoulders down and demanded a kiss; Nguyen said she gave a peck to end it.

Responses

López Chávez has denied wrongdoing. Her attorney, Greg Skordas, said she is "prepared to address" the accusations in any forum and offered to submit to a polygraph if requested. Adams’ office released a statement saying the committee advised the congresswoman to guard against perceived preferential treatment and to ensure staff could raise concerns without fear of retaliation.
